June is here, colleges and schools have closed or are about to close for the summer. Now is the time of year everyone starts planning for vacation. If you are a procrastinator and have not made any summer vacation plans yet, here are some ideas that are local and you can pull off without a lot of preparation.

Hershey, PA – a great trip for the family! You have the theme park, the chocolate factory ride and the town that is designed around the Hershey chocolate theme. It is great for all ages.

Pocono Mountains – there are lots of resorts that offer swimming, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing and lots more. You can keep busy with water and land activities for all ages.

Strasburg, PA – This is in Lancaster County and offers a step back in time with Amish buggies, historic trains, beautiful bed and breakfast sites and delicious home cooked food. It is very relaxing gazing over the farmland and imaging how life was much different back in the day.

Gettysburg, PA – This is the best place for history lovers! One of the largest Civil War battles was fought right here in PA. Tour the battlefield, experience reenactments and see the museums. There are great bed and breakfast facilities so you can relax after a long day of touring.

New Jersey & Delaware Beaches – numerous coastal towns and fantastic beaches to enjoy all summer long. Both states have excellent places to stay for a night, weekend or longer to satisfy all price ranges. There are boardwalks, casinos, top notch entertainment, rides, shopping, great food and all types of water activities.

Philadelphia sites – of course the famous Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center, Franklin Institute, Natural Science Museum, Philadelphia Art Museum, Independence Hall, Please Touch Museum, Reading Terminal Market, Philadelphia  Zoo, Museum of the American Revolution, National Constitution Center and many more.

If you want to stay out of the city, there is Valley Forge National Park, in Montgomery County, is a beautiful place to spend the day touring, biking, hiking or relaxing and enjoying the landscape with a picnic. There are excellent exhibits and replicated huts where the Continental Army lived during the harsh winter under George Washington’s command. Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown is a great place to get close up to the animals. It is excellent for smaller children or for anyone who only wants to spend a few hours at the zoo. Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, outside of Doylestown, in Bucks County, has great stores, food and a fantastic carousel for the whole family. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square is 1100 acres of magnificent gardens, meadows and fields that will just take your breath away. They always have lots of events happening all year long.
