Acccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employee quits climbed in August while hiring and new job requisitions remained elevated. This is the second highest number of quits since the recession. There were 2.98 million workers who voluntarily left their job in August, which is believed to be due to employee confidence. Economists also believe this is a sign of optimism mixed with growth in consumer spending. Employees feel like they have plenty of job options now that companies are in a hiring frenzy.

High-skill positions are still very much in demand, but employers report that they continue to have trouble finding qualified employees. Overall, employers are much more eager to hire new workers with their desired hard and soft skills than lay off their existing staff. This is a welcomed change after the past few years. However, there is speculation that election uncertainty and year-end corporate reshuffling could shake up company staffing. It is safe to say that many companies will hold off until after elections to make final moves regarding their future. It may be wise for employees to avoid acting overly-confident when making life-changing career choices until there is more insight on economic stability. Wishful thinking, everyone!
